Deer Medicine: A Gentle Spirit Guide

Deer spirit energy has been finding its way into my life for more than a month now.

A while ago, I sat down to pray and meditate in a moment of vulnerability. Frustrated by stagnated projects, unclear on what directions to take to moved forward and uncertain about what the future held, I’d become despondent.

After sending out a prayer asking for guidance, I waited, open and receptive to whatever answers were willing to come.  In my mind’s eye, I saw a deer standing in a lush enchanting forest. It looked directly at me. Unsure of what this image meant, I drew a card from my Goddess Guidance oracle card deck. Behold, there on the Artemis card stood a deer in the background. Deep emotions stirred within me. My eyes filled with tears. The message was now clear – Don’t worry about the future, you are safe and all is well. That moment of affirmation that your pray has been heard is so precious.

Deer have been showing up in my space since. Not the physical animal. We don’t get them here in South Africa. We have all kinds of antelope, but no deer. The deer spirit energy has surface in oracle cards, images, in décor magazines, in shops, in blogs and books that I read and all kinds of places. The mark of Divine synchronicity at play. Isn’t that how it goes when you are open? You notice fanatically and signs appear at every corner.

Deer medicine keeps whispering to me to be gentle with myself, to be patient with the process, to reconnect with innocence and to be receptive to magical mysteries of life.

And the more I do so, the more things seem to fall together.

Rewilding the Spirit

What makes you feel free and uninhibited? Run towards it….

In Stillness Speaks, Eckhart Tolle wrote that by stepping into stillness ‘you become present’ and ‘you step out of thousands of years of collective human conditioning.’ Our conditioning is so layered and influences our beliefs about ourselves and about the world. From a young age we become domesticated and taught to act in certain ways.

Walking a spiritual path has been a re-wilding of sorts. It is an un-taming of the domesticated heart and restoring the soul to its freest and most natural form. It is a process of unlearning what is unnatural and remembering what is true.

We were born to be wild, unique and expressive beings. The barriers of conditioning only cage you creative essence and snuff out your incredible spirit.

What stands in the way of you being who you are fully?

Release it. Walk away from it. Loosen its grips. And set your spirit free.

Each day, the Great Mother brings me new insights about re-wilding my own spirit. Stepping into the stillness of Nature and has been a doorway to reuniting with my authentic self and undoing years of conditioning. The wilderness mirrors that wild unbridled spirit within us.

By breaking down the barriers that we have been taught to build around your wild and instinctive self, a powerful ocean of Spirit will reclaim its place in your life, just as the ocean waters wash over a de-constructed pier no longer serving a purpose, repossessing its rightful space.

Abandon those piers, those preconceived perceptions of who you should be and how your life should be lived.

You are free to choose a different path, one where you can dive deep into a life rich with Spirit, Mystery and the beauty of your true essence.

A Mirror of Peace

“Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it. How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Engulfed in the beauty of Mother Nature, I feel the nurturing support of the Earth below me, solid, firm, yet comfortable. I’m becoming ever more sensitive to her pulsing energy as it becomes entrained with my own. Beside me, the tall wises trees stand in silence. Being in the powerful presence of these sisters is so calming. As they emanate the deep contentment of peace, I can’t help but drop into the stillness of my own centre to mirror that peace back to them. The sounds of Nature rest gently in my ears, like soothing lullabies sung softly to me by the Great Mother.
